Grape vines are everywhere. But most of them -- at least in these parts -- are on high ground. I will forevermore associate wine with biking up epic hills!
Backing up, the day dawned shrouded in fog as we bid adieu to Camping la Poterie, but soon transformed itself into bright sunshine and blue skies. The miles (or kilometers) flew by as we rolled into Amboise.
Amboise dates to at least Roman times, when it was known as Ambacia, and there are currently 60 active archeological digs in the area.
We felt compelled to explore the town a bit more, and began with the most exceptional croissants and a cuppa at a local patisserie.
Amboise was delightfully charming.
After consuming our croissants and taking in the local hot spots, we revised our plans for the day and decided to finish up in Tours, a slightly shorter stage with more sightseeing than we'd originally planned.
The sights along the way we're entertaining. Vintage cars,
...vineyards as far as the eye could see,
historic architecture,
and glorious scenery!
Without a doubt, the great cathedral at Tours steals the show.
Despite a few daunting climbs, it felt as if the world was just opening itself up to us, like an oyster revealing it's pearl. Truly a spectacular day and an unbelievable tour!
