Cold Start to an Unbeatable Day

We wore all our layers to start our ride this morning. It was a grayish 46° with a bracing breeze. Yes, I'm using stylish the 2 hat solution. But weather doesn't stop us. We turned away from the river for some minor road riding. On the Loire Velo route we were greeted with this encouraging sign.
At Jargeau we return to riding along the river though this bike friendly underpass.

Jargeau has a municipal campground that made me think of Grand Marais, but it only has tents today.
The paved route then rolled through nature preserves and parks one of which was using sheep to nibble the grass and beavers to tend the banks.
When we left the park and got back to small towns, the views included chateaux and old religious buildings like this abbey.
The biggest town we visited today was Orleans. It was well set up for cyclists. We got groceries and then had lunch in the square with a view of the river. By this time we had shed our extra layers and we marveling at the great Spring weather.
After lunch we rode along the main flower and tree lined path.
And then back to the peaceful country roads. On a car tour you might have missed Saunt-Hilare-Saint-Mesmin but in a bike you get to see the houses and fields.

Another place that is easier to see is Meung-sur-Loire. Most of the roads seemed two way, but one lane wide. We waded right in and rode up the this boulangerie.
Yes, we stopped and then enjoyed a snack in the square bounded by the Collegiate Church if Saint-Liphard, started in the 11th century.
And we admired the adjacent chateau.
We all agreed it was another amazing ride. We are getting spoiled.

  1. We could save a lot of trees if we learned how to train beaver. I haven’t quite got Mavis trained. A beaver seems hopeless. Beautiful scenery! Ldo

  4. Beaver training is easy. You just need to want what they want and they gladly comply.
